Coloring Book Giveaway: Mandalas by Wendy Piersall
Everybody's doing it! Adult coloring is the new meditation. It's fun, it's relaxing, it's creative, and it's calming.
Artist Wendy Piersall has put together two mandala collections for those of us who like to color. Coloring Flower Mandalas, published just this spring, contains thirty designs inspired by the beautiful blooms we find in our gardens and in nature. The designs in her earlier book, Coloring Animal Mandalas, span the animal kingdom from butterflies to elephants to dragons. Together the books offer hours of quiet enjoyment.
I love that I can take Piersall's designs in several directions, coloring the mandalas in realistic colors, in fanciful colors, and in whatever combination I want. Sometimes I fill in each area with a different pencil, and other times I combine spaces or divide spaces to make my finished picture unique.
I'm always curious about other people's coloring habits, so I'll share mine. I like to listen to music or an audiobook when I color. I usually work on a picture over the course of a few days, rather than rushing through all in one go. I generally work on a motif by motif basis, rather than start in one area and color from there. Finally, I photocopy the page from the book so I can start over if I don't like my decisions or in case I want to color the mandala again in a different style. Do you have any coloring routines?
Here are two examples of my work. The left one comes from the flower book and the right one from the animal book. Aren't they cool? I think so.
I'm so excited to be able to offer one of you (with a U.S. mailing address) a super coloring package, thanks to Ulysses Press. One lucky reader will get a copy of each of Piersall's books.
But what's the point of a coloring book if you don't have the supplies. So in addition to the books, the winner will also get a pack of 24 Prismacolor pencils! That way you'll be able to get busy coloring right away! BTW: These are the same brand of pencils I use to color my mandalas.
All you have to do to be entered for a chance to win is to fill out the following form. I'll pick a winner via random number generator on July 24. Once the winner has been confirmed, I'll erase all personal information from my computer. Good luck!

I love the idea of adult coloring books! I loved coloring when I was a kid and coloring with my daughter when she was younger. Thanks for the giveaway!
What a great idea, photocopying the pages in case you want to go in a different direction.
Your creations look fantastic. I just started coloring - one page so far - Thanks for the giveaway!
I have a couple of these "adult" coloring books... I just need to make the time to use them more often. I love pretending I'm an artist, since I can't really draw a stick figure :)
What a neat idea and a great way to relax. I can't remember the last time I colored. Thanks for the giveaway.
I've always loved to color and am excited to be going to Girls Night In at Fiction Addiction next week - a night of coloring, conversation, and cocktails. I'll finally get an adult coloring book! Thanks for the giveaway!
This looks so fun. Thanks for the chance to win!
I have a couple adult coloring books and love the idea though I haven't used them as much as I should. I love this one and the pages you've done are so pretty! Thanks for hosting the giveaway!
I'm in my 70s and have always loved coloring. Somewhere in my desk is a box of crayons and a bunch of colored pencils - both very much used.
this is one i would love to 'win'
What a fun give away! I just ordered a coloring book from amazon and a small package of colored pencils and they will be arriving today. :) Your package of pencils looks bigger and way more fun than the smaller one I ordered. :)
xoxoxo
What an awesome and generous giveaway! I've been lusting after a pack of Prismacolor pencils and an Enchanted Forest or Secret Garden book, but I think these mandalas would be a lovely option too. They might also encourage me to finally try an audio book, too. :) Thanks for hosting!
I am so going to get into this! Cheers from carole's chatter
I love to color! I had those velvet posters all over my classroom walls, and taught an after school activity on designing your own mandalas.
I have loved adult colouring books since the Peter Max-esque creations of my teen years during the 1970s. They have not always been easy to find over the years, so I am greatly appreciating their resurgence.
What a shame that only U.S. addresses are eligible. Does it really cost that much more to ship to your close neighbour, Canada?
What a great idea for a giveaway.
How fun! I enjoy photographing flowers and animals but haven't done any drawing or coloring for years.
Yay! I love coloring. It's so relaxing and a great way to focus my mind when it wants to go all chaotic. Thanks for the giveaway!
I have jumped on this bandwagon yet....but I am intrigued. I purchased a coloring book for my 22 yo granddaughter. She is into them these days.
I love this trend. I finally found some once I moved back to TX and I'm loving my time with it every day. Especially with an audiobook!
I used to love coloring I've been thinking of starting again.lovely giveaway,
Those are beautiful! I never thought about copying pages to potentially try again if you don't like the result. I just figure I'll move on to another page if a drawing isn't working for me. I love coloring books with audio books and music -- I tried with tv and found it hard to enjoy either.
