Today's Read & Giveaway: The Headmaster's Wife by Thomas Christopher Greene

The Headmaster's Wife by Thomas Christopher GreeneI'm doing a little something different this week by featuring a book that I loved and reviewed last year. The Headmaster's Wife by Thomas Christopher Greene has just come out in paperback, and I'm celebrating by sharing the opening sentences and by holding a giveaway.
He arrives at the park by walking down Central Park West and then entering through the opening at West Seventy-seventh Street. This is in the winter. It is early morning, and the sun is a little more than an orangey haze behind heavy clouds in the east. Light snow flurries fill the air. There are not many people out, a few runners and women bundled against the cold pushing strollers.

He walks down the asphalt drive and when he reaches a path with a smal wooden footbridge he stops for a moment, and it is there somewhere, a snatch of memory, but he cannot reach it.

Quick Facts
  • Snapshot blurb: A beautifully written look into a man's soul and how he copes with an increasingly cold marriage, a life-changing event, and the almost inevitable loss of the small, safe world he's hidden in.
  • Review: See my bullet review from last year.
  • Extra: You must watch this incredibly moving video from the author (warning: grab some tissues)
Giveaway

Thanks to Picador, I'm happy to be able to spread the word about The Headmaster's Wife by offering two of my readers with a U.S. or Canada mailing address a copy of the newly released paperback. All you have to do to be entered for a chance to win is to fill out the form. I'll pick a name using a random number generator on March 11. Once the winners have been confirmed, I'll erase all personal information from my computer. Good luck!

  2. This one has been on my wish list since it came out in hardcover. I love those opening lines, as well as Manhattan's upper west side. I can't afford to live there, but I do visit often.

  6. I can see why you loved this book. It does sound good!

My first thought after reading the intro was how I know exactly what he means about having the memory right there, but somehow being unable to get to it.
