In the two years or so we'd been on the road, I did miss my mom. When I was really homesick in those first lonely, bumpy days at a new place, I wasn't lonely for my old house or friends, or anything else specific, as much as just the comfort she represented. It was the little things, like her smell, the way she always hugged too tight, how she looked just enough like me to make me feel safe at a single glance. Then, though, I'd remember it wasn't her that I was really yearning for as much as a mirage, who I'd thought she was. The person who cared enough about our family to never want to split us all into pieces. (p. 18)—From What Happened to Goodbye by Sarah Dessen (Penguin USA / Viking, 2011)

This one does sound tempting! Great teaser.
ReplyDeleteHere's MY TT POST
This book is in my TBR. I have one Sarah Dessen book on hand--Along the Ride, I haven't read it yet though. I like your teaser very much. It's kinda touching and sad... it makes me wanna read the book more.
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog today!
April =)
Oh, I have been hearing a lot about this book and have read quite a few reviews. Dessen is a new author to me, but I know that others like her, and the premise of this book have me rather intrigued. I can't imagine what it must be like to have to move like that all the time, and to chose to create a new identity every time too! Very nice teaser!
ReplyDeleteI've never been a big Dessen person, but it's not for the lack of wanting. I don't have time to read 90% of what I want to. The one or two books I have read were very accessible and easy to read. That is a great teaser...something that makes me sit back and think.
ReplyDeleteI've got to get this one. I discovered Sarah's books last year.
ReplyDeleteBeen reading several books on loss and this looks like a good one to add. Here's a tease from my current read.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this one! I can't wait for Booking Daughter to start reading her books.
ReplyDeleteIt is good to see you are reading Dessen. I love her :) But I am yet to read this one.
ReplyDeleteDoes that mean the mom did split them up? How sad.
ReplyDeleteGreat teaser. I love Sarah Dessen. WHtG is not my fav of hers but it was great.

Oh a good passage for sure. I've only read one Dessen and it was a long time ago...
ReplyDeleteOh my, I wonder where her mother's gone.
ReplyDeleteI love Sarah Dessen. I'm looking forward to you thoughts on this one!
ReplyDeleteOh yay! I read this one and enjoyed it. A typical Dessen story. I'll be interested to see how you like it when you're done.
