Thanks for indulging me on my 100th Wordless Wednesday. The Neff Round Barn is a famous landmark in Centre County. It was built 100 years ago, and to celebrate its anniversary the current owners invited the public to see the structure up close and inside.

I have lived in the area since 1978, and this is the first time the owners opened up the barn to the community. The farm is still actively worked and the barn is still used, so I'm sure it was quite a project to clean it all out for us to see.

The event was last Saturday, and I took about 250 photos. Unfortunately, it was almost impossible to get a good shot of the outside of the barn without a ton of people standing in front of it. These exterior photos give you a good idea of what it looks like. I will be posting a handful of interior shots (one at a time!) over the next few weeks.

For more information about the barn and for another photo, click this link.

Very nice pictures, Beth and a loely barn. The owners must be very proud of their beautiful barn, it's kept in a wonderful condition.

Heather 10/20/10, 5:51 AM

That may be the most beautiful barn I have ever seen. I can't wait to see the interior shots.

wow, gorgeous. That is a Shaker designed round barn. So beautiful.

Michelle 10/20/10, 6:14 AM

You seriously have the coolest stuff around you!

Sandy Nawrot 10/20/10, 6:49 AM

Well, you know I grew up with barns all around me, but I've never seen a round one! I cannot wait to see the inside. I hope it doesn't look like any of the barns on my parents' farm!!! (Old machinery, dust, dead varmints, old boards...)

Enjoyed the pics! Don't think I've ever seen a round barn before. We have plenty of smoking barns (this time of year farmers are curing their dark-fired tobacco) but no round ones.

100 weeks of Wordless Wednesday - wow!

So glad you didn't stop with posting just one photo - these exterior shots are stunning (truth be told, more impressive than those on the official website, IMHO!). What a treat that you were able to tour it on the rare public opening!

Congratulations on your 100th anniversary! Love the barn. What an unusual structure! Looking forward to interior shots.

I love all the shots of the barn. I'd never guess you weren't way out there, all alone.

It's gorgeous! I can just imagine how difficult it was to get those walls up.

What a well-kept Shaker round barn! Although the beauty of the barn does speak for itself, it is nice to know some of its history too. Congrats on your 100th!

caite 10/20/10, 8:26 AM

I have never seen a round barn in person. Francisca beat me to it, about the Shakers and the round barns. very cool!

OneDay 10/20/10, 8:39 AM

It's amazing! I'd love to see this in person. Happy WW and congrats on your 100th post!

Secret Mom Thoughts 10/20/10, 8:46 AM

Very cool barn. You got some good shots too.

Barbara 10/20/10, 9:35 AM

Beautiful barn. Very few of these left but this is in excellent condition. In Susquehanna County there is an octagon barn, also in good condition.

Beth Hoffman 10/20/10, 9:38 AM

I grew up on a farm, so anytime I see a barn I'm immediately flooded with memories. But THIS barn is really, really something! Love all the shots; the 2nd one is my favorite.

What a beautiful barn & pictures! One of my "things" before kids was to go out driving on a Sunday and photograph barns. TFS! Happy WW!

We have a round barn here in San Luis Obispo, although I've never been to see it. From afar, though, it doesn't look nearly as beautiful as this one!

Anonymous,  10/20/10, 11:27 AM

Remarkable, thank you for the pictures. The fact that it is still a working barn after 100 years is incredible.

Stan 10/20/10, 11:44 AM

I find those old rural buildings fascinating. They just don't build 'em like they used to these days.

Indrani 10/20/10, 11:50 AM

Great shots of the barn, we don't have similar structures here.
Congrats on your 100th WW post.

Alice 10/20/10, 12:09 PM

I love the barn pictures! Thanks for the information for this set of pictures too.

Karen Harrington 10/20/10, 12:31 PM

That's the nicest looking barn I've ever seen.

colleen 10/20/10, 1:19 PM

Corn and barns fit right in with my WW theme. We have no round barns here though!

East Coast Wahine 10/20/10, 1:37 PM

Oh lucky you for getting to see this beautiful barn! And love your photos!

Brooke 10/20/10, 1:55 PM

Wow.. That must have been a pleasure to see in person and can not wait to see the interior photos.. Beautiful

What an interesting building. Great pictures.

SuziQoregon 10/20/10, 3:01 PM

Beautiful times six!!! It's a perfect celebration of your 100th WW with a 100 year old building.

I'm so glad you posted all of these together. It really does help to get some perspective of the setting along with some detail from the closer shots.

I want to visit!!

Unknown 10/20/10, 3:46 PM

What a cool barn..thanks for sharing the pictures.

dina 10/20/10, 3:46 PM

I have always wanted to live in a round house - I know it is not that practical what with most furniture being square or rectangle.

Beth 10/20/10, 4:17 PM

Amazing! Any idea what they use a round barn for?

Cathy 10/20/10, 4:23 PM

I've always loved barns, and this round one is spectacular. Thanks so much for sharing!

S. Krishna 10/20/10, 4:35 PM

This is too cool! I'm glad you chose to post all of these at once - it's definitely not too much!

catsynth 10/20/10, 4:48 PM

The round barn is very interesting architecturally, and you got some great photos of it under a clear blue October sky.

Congrats on your 100th WW!

Belle 10/20/10, 6:22 PM

Great pictures - it's quite an impressive looking barn. And congrats on your 100th Wordless Wednesday!
