Beth Fish Reads on Follow the Reader

Do you think book bloggers can influence sales? Can we work with bookstores to help hand-sell our favorite books and authors? Charlotte Abbott, from Follow the Reader, and I talked about these questions just the other day. To find out what she asked and what I had to say, read the interview at the Follow the Reader blog.

If you are on Twitter, I invite you to come join in the Twitter chat #FollowReader on Thursday, June 17 at 4:00 pm ET. Just follow along by using the hashtag. Hope you'll let us know your ideas.

I like your challenge to read a lesser-known book and I hope others (as I will be doing) accept that challenge. I love to find a recommended book that has not been on every other blog!

That was a good read! I like that you pointed out that blog tours can be a turn off if overwhelming. Personally any interest I may have had in a book is put aside when every new post is about it.

A few weeks ago I found a lesser known book that's out of print and got excited, but it turned out to be a bad book so I'll have to rethink my idea.

I liked your interview a lot. I thought you did a good job pointing out what bloggers can and can't do when it comes to marketing and sales. And the info about book tours was good too -- the idea of false buzz or buzz that's perceived to be false online is sometimes even worse than no buzz at all.

Great topic! I posted the following comment on the other blog:

I wonder if the success of The Help could be an example of how bloggers have helped. I know I received a review copy and reviewed it on my site, as did several others because I remember reading reviews. It would be interesting if they could do a study to figure out where those who bought the book first heard about it, and see how often it ended up starting with a blog. Lots I would hope!

About to check the hashtag at Twitter when I realized its only Wednesday today...and tomorrow I will not be at home. Oh well. Sounds like a hugely interesting discussion though.

Thanks for stopping by. I read all comments and may respond here, via e-mail, or on your blog. I visit everyone who comments, but not necessarily right away.

I cannot turn off word verification, but if you are logged into Blogger you can ignore the captcha. I have set posts older than 14 days to be on moderation. I can no longer accept anonymous comments. I'm so sorry if this means you have to register or if you have trouble commenting.
