Today's Read: Island Beneath the Sea by Isabel Allende
MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.
Love, which he had not known before, tossed Etienne Relais about like a tremendous wave, pure energy, salt, and foam. He judged that he could not compete with the girl's other clients, more handsome, powerful, or rich, and so decided at dawn to offer what few white men would be prepared to give: His name. "Marry me," he said between embraces. I have on read one book by Allende (her memoir Sum of Our Days, on audio) and fell in love with her passion and heart. I would love to read more from her. Looking forward to the review!
I am really looking forward to getting my hands on this Allende book at some point. Enjoy Beth!
The passage you quoted is so touching. I've heard good things about this author and have her on my list. I look forward to your review.
Wonderful teaser, sounds like I will have to read this one.
I'd accept if I were her . . .
What a teaser! It sure made me want to read the book now.
Just popping back here for a second time: after I saw your teaser (you mention uncorrected proof) I was in the bookshop and I saw the book there already (this is in The Netherlands).
So, I wondered if you had an old copy or whether it's being re-published for the US?
Oo, this looks good! I started to read Daughter of Fortune when I was taking Spanish classes (loooong time ago) and had tried to read it in both English and Spanish. Because of that, I didn't get too far, but I think Allende is an author I would really like. I'll have to try her again (only in English this time, though).
