Today's Read: The Heart Is Not a Size by Beth Kephart
MizB at Should Be Reading hosts Teaser Tuesdays. Here's how it works: Grab your current read; let the book fall open to a random page; and share 2 “teaser” sentences from that page. For more teasers, click on through to MizB's blog.
I needed stars and moon and night air, so I walked—worrying about women I'd never know; thinking about all that can't be changed or controlled; trying to envision Juarez, this place of complications and contradictions, where perfect, I pretty quickly figured out, wasn't the issue: Survival was. You can't let people think you're nuts. Not when you're in high school. (p. 66)—From The Heart Is Not a Size by Beth Kephart (Source: Review copy, see review policy).

I am not sure you can afford to let people think you are nuts at any time, but yes, definitely in high school!
Thanks for stopping by my teaser!
Wait. I was coming on to your blog to see what wise words you were posting about life in general, or other's books, or tea.... and I find these words, and I have to say that it's something to see bits of something you once wrote held out in another's space. It teaches you something.
This sounds like a very poignant read, I love Beth Kephart's writing. Enjoy!
Ha aha loved the second one...everyone's nuts in high school though.
Here's Mine
Heh. No one tries to be anything approaching different, much less crazy, in high school. High school is all about loping off pieces of yourself to fit in.
Wow! That first one is great! The second one cracks me up! LOL Thanks for visiting Proud Book Nerd!
I'm still smiling at the high school truth ;)
Nice one!
Thanks for sharing.
Here is my Teaser Tuesday :)
Great teasers! Can you believe I've never read a Kephart novel?!
very pretty prose in the first teaser and the second was hilarious. Thanks for stopping by today. I think you will enjoy "The Secret Diaries of Charlotte Bronte". The teaser I posted today stirred my emotions, that's why I used it. It comes after the passing of all of her siblings and she is left alone. It is the moment she comes to term with her life as it is and then decides to move on. I know it is a fictionalized version of Charlotte's life, but I have found it very well written and very interesting. Thanks for stopping by today.
I hope you are enjoying the book!
What great teasers. And the second is definitely true.
Oh how I loved this book. It was the first book ever that I marked and quoted on my blog. So many good lines, the book is full of them.
Aww, I love BOTH of those! Great teaser. I have two this week at The Crowded Leaf.
I heart this book. Just finished it Sunday while floating in the pool. I just need to write the review, but how to decide what quotes to use? This is my first Beth book, so excuse me for sounding naive, but she is just wonderful. It felt like I was reading Jacqueline Woodson.
i have this on my wishlist already and your teasers are doing their job. must.get.this.book.
Can't wait to get to this one!
Cute teasers, especially the second one. Thank you for stopping by mine.
I'm thinking I should get around to reading some of Kephart's books, I hear nothing but good things about them.
Awesome choices! Those are both so great, I would have picked two as well. And how lucky to have Beth stop by too!! I've really been looking forward to this book and now I can't wait to read it. Have a terrific week! :)
I just started my first Kephart book, Nothing but Ghosts. I have high hopes :)
Really great teasers!
This looks great! Amazing teasers and wonderful cover! I read the most amazing book this week. I had used it for my Teaser Tuesday and loved it so much I decided to post my review today. Feel free to head over to my blog and check it out at http://EmmaMichaels.Blogspot.com and post your teaser in my comments!
Sincerely,
Emma Michaels
I love the first passage - and the second made me laugh :P
