Challenge: 2010 EW Summer Books
It'll soon be summer, which means evenings on the deck reading and looking up every once in a while to watch the birds at the feeder. Julie at Booking Mama has an idea to make warm-weather reading a bit more fun: Her EW Summer Books Challenge! The idea is to read from Entertainment Weekly's summer reading list.
Pretty much all of the books look good; however, I'm joining up at the Polliwog level, which means I agree to read just 1 to 3 books. The challenge runs from May 1 to September 6.
Check out Julie's post for the complete list of 18 books, but here are few that caught my eye:
- The Last Stand by Nathaniel Philbrick
- The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest by Stieg Larsson
- The Particular Sadness of Lemon Cake by Aimee Bender
- The Passage by Justin Cronin
- The Cookbook Collector by Allegra Goodman
- Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

I so want to read MOCKINGJAY! Have fun with the challenge, Beth!
There is nothing but fun on that list! I just ordered The Passage from the library on audio...I think it was like 27 discs or something. Ouch! I'm also third in line for Hornet, which makes me all wiggly just thinking about!
Good luck!
I have The Passage and can't wait to get to it; it looks like a perfect summer read! I think The Cookbook Collector sounds amazing too, I already have it on hold. And of course, I can't wait for Mockingjay! Good luck and have fun!
Thanks so much for joining! I'm really excited about these books!
The EW Challenge does sound fun and just from your short list, I saw a few that have been on my radar. I'll check it out over at Julie's. Thanks!
I wish I had more free time this summer, I would join in a heartbeat. I am hoping that I can read a couple of these during the fall read-athon (yes, I do plan my life around such events and that far in advance!)
I know you will have a great time with this challenge.
This is such a fun challenge! I'm doing it at the Polliwog level too.
I think The Passage is going to be one of the big hits of the year. I'm not sure if I'll enjoy it, but I am looking forward to finding out!
I just ordered a bunch from the EW list and I can't wait for them to come in so I can start reading!
I've been thinking I'll try to sign up for this challenge because I'll be reading Mockingjay for sure. I've just been too busy to put a post together.
Hi Beth, I am excited about this challenge. I pick out some really great titles. Thanks for posting this Can't wait for summer to start!
I'm definitely going to join this one - I've already got review copies of two of the books - The Passage and Girl in Translation - and of course, will be reading Mockingjay. :)
I guess I should probably sign up as a Polliwog, since I, like Carrie, have both The Passage and Girl in Translation and plan to read Mockingjay on pub day.
Good luck with this challenge! I was tempted by this one as well.
I can't wait for Mockingjay! The first two books in the series were amazing!
