Thursday Tea (July 2): A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton
Thursday Tea is hosted by Anastasia at Birdbrain(ed) Book Blog. Here's how it works: Tell us what tea you are drinking (and if you like it). And then tell us what book are you reading (and if you like it). Finally, tell us if they go together.
The Tea
This week I'm drinking Adagio's Thai chai, which the company describes as "Silky sweet coconut and playful bright lemongrass highlight this seductive black tea chai blend. Let the aroma draw you in and you’ll swear you hear it beckoning . . . come closer, just take a sip." It is a yummy tea, and it has been perfect for drinking in the cool of the evening.
The Book
I'm listening to A Kiss of Shadows by Laurell K. Hamilton. Merry Gentry is a elven princess hiding out in LA pretending to be human. She has been working for the Grey Detective Agency, whose advertising tag is "supernatural problems, magical solutions." Merry is part human and, unfortunately, mortal. Although she's third in line for the throne, she is unlikely to ever rule: The reigning queen (her aunt) wants Merry dead.
The Assessment
Merry was raised at the fey court and lives in LA. She would definitely be into an exotic tea. Thai chai sounds like something she might sip while deciding what to wear before meeting her boyfriend. Or perhaps she'd serve it to a client while they discuss a new case. Regardless, I'm enjoying both the tea and this first in an urban fantasy series.
As always, now it's your turn to tell me what you're reading. What have you been drinking this week? Maybe you've decided on a nice cold beer as your reward for doing yard work.

I'm drinking Bewley's Clipper Gold black tea and reading RACHEL CALOF'S STORY, about a Jewish homesteader in North Dakota in the 1900s. very interesting!!
Your book and tea sound lovely. I'm finishing up a Robert Ludlum/Jason Bourne book. For this I need something very strong like scotch and water.
You're tea sounds very yummy and A Kiss of Shadows sounds like a fun read! I'm drinking an English Breakfast Tea.
I've never heard of coconut tea, but it sounds great!
I gave up on reading A Kiss of Shadows as I found it just full of sex and was amazed how she jumped into bed with her man, hours after being raped! I just couldn't get my head around it.
That sounded really ante, didn't it. I have nothing against books full of sex and I really hoped to enjoy this story - I just found it a bit strong for my personal taste.
Scrap Girl: I totally understand what you mean -- the book has way more sex in it than had expected from the genre!
Re: the above comments...I take it this isn't a YA urban fantasy then?
The tea sounds delicious. I am not a huge fan of Chai, but my mouth is seriously watering. Where did you get it?
J. T.: it is from Adagio tea. Just click on the link.
No room for tea this week -- just lots and lots of water.
yumm! Coconut Tea :) :) Never really can think of anything like that here :)
Well, I didn't like the first in the Anita Blake series, so I don't know if I'd like this, but maybe the library if you think it's pretty good!
Hmmmm.... I'm drinking ice water and reading It Happened in Italy by Elizabeth Bettina. The book is about the Holocaust. I think maybe I need to change my drink....
:)
Coconut tea! Oh, I must try that. I haven't done a Thursday Tea post in a month. I keep forgetting to get some tea because I don't typically drink it in the summer.
