Audiobook Challenge: Wrap-Up
I have officially finished J. Kaye's Audiobook Challenge. To learn more about the challenge, visit J. Kaye's Book Blog. To see who else has finished the challenge visit this page at J. Kaye's Book Blog.
I committed to listening to 12 books, and I met that goal yesterday. I plan on listening to many more books this year, so if you're an audiobook fan, keep on eye on this space!
Here is what I read. Click on the link to read my review. My rating is in parentheses.
Completed Audiobook Challenge List
House of Blue Mangoes by David Davidar (C+)
Rebel by Bernard Cornwell (B)
Inkdeath by Cornelia Funke (C+)
The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly (B+)
Igraine the Brave by Cornelia Funke (B)
Memoirs of Cleopatra by Margaret George (B-)
Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr (A+)
Swallows and Amazons by Arthur Ransome (A)
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher (A)
Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter by Blaize Clement (B-)
Queen Lucia by E. F. Benson (A)
A Cold Day for Murder by Dana Stabenow (B-)
As you all know by now, I absolutely love audiobooks. I listen daily when I walk, do household chores, drive, or shop. Hands-down Wicked Lovely is the best of the bunch. It's among my all-time top listens, and I am so happy I didn't miss it. Thirteen Reasons Why was especially well suited for audio because at least half of the book is meant to be audio recordings made by one of the main characters.
In terms of production quality, there is not a miss in my list. The two C+ ratings are for the storyline not for the audio experience.

Congratulations! This is fantastic! Thanks for the heads-up about Asher's book. I have it in my review pile, but might get it on audio instead.
Thanks so much for hosting this challenge. I love to hear about audiobooks I might have missed and your challenge Mr. Linky lists are a great resource.
Holy cow, you've done a lot for a short period of time. I'm glad you explained when you listen - oddly, I never thought to listen to one anywhere but in the car. But it makes sense to listen those other times too.
Congratulations on meeting the challenge!
Way to go!
Great job! I have just started listening to audiobooks.
Congratulations on completing the challenge, and thanks for the list of audiobook reviews.
I'm also a big fan of audiobooks while doing almost anything that doesn't involve interacting with other people :-).
Congrats on completing the challenge!
I haven't listened to an audio book before but I am very curious to start. I love certain books so passionately but I have trouble re-reading anything so this may be a way for me to get back into those titles.
How was Inkdeath?
Congratulations on finishing! I am slowly working my way through this challenge but audibooks are proving to be a difficult adjustment for me. I have abandoned more than I have finished:(
Congrats on completing the challenge! I have to admit I have never listened to an audio book before... I decided to redeem that, though, and requested one from the library. :)
Congratulations on finishing the challenge! I didn't even realise there was an audio book challenge, as I may have been tempted to sign up!
I'll have to go and have a look, as I love finding books which are good to listen to. I hope it runs next year, as I'll make sure I sign up then.
Hi. I'm pretty sure you've received the I Love Your Blog Award already but am passing it on to you because I love your blog!
Congrats on this accomplishment. 12 books for a challenge is huge. Stop by my blog for a surprise.
Way to go, Beth! I knew you would have this challenge wrapped up early - I seem to remember reading that you listened to a very high number of audiobooks last year! Maybe 80? Congratulations on completing!
Great job, Beth! I am still waiting to receive my first audiobooks, which I am getting from Hachette. I look forward to the new experience!
You've got an award waiting over on my blog, too. http://imlostinbooks.blogspot.com/2009/04/friendly-bloggers-award.html
Congratulations on wrapping this challenge up! This is quickly becoming the year of the audiobook for me, too - I love that I can multi-task and "read" at the same time.
Congrats on finishing the challenge!!!
Congrats on finishing! I tried an audiobook earlier this year, and had a hard time with the slower pace. But I really want to read Wicked Lovely, and the library only has it in audiobook, so I guess I'm going to have to try again! ;)
Congratulations on finishing! It's going to take me forever to finish mine, because I'm listening to the Outlander series - and they're monstrously long! Voyager was 36 discs, Drums in Autumn is 39!
Great job on the challenge Beth. I love audio books too - so many times when my hands are busy and my ears are not :)
I treated myself to an audible account for Christmas last year and I download a book a month, as well as borrow from the library.
Rhapsody: I get so much more reading done now that I take advantage of every minute!
Bermuda/Kathy: thanks.
Nise': I'll be looking for your reviews.
Imbookingit: Thanks. Glad to see another fan.
Julie: Thanks.
Pam: Audio is a great way to reread a book. Inkdeath was the weakest in the trilogy -- click through to see my full review.
BookPsmith: Sorry to hear that this is a real challenge for you.
Kailana: Gook luck and I'll look for your review.
Farm/Jackie: Thanks. And do check out the reviews from J. Kaye's site. There are some good audios out there.
MsUlat: Thanks!
Violette: Thanks!
Mom: Yes, last year I listened to more than 80. This year will be way less, since I've decided to accept review books.
Rebecca: I'll be looking for your reviews.
Belle: I know, it's amazing how many books I can read now.
Ladytink: Thanks.
Penny: Thanks, it's true you can't skim through to read more quickly when you near the end! Hope you love Wicked Lovely as much as I did.
Carrie: If you can believe it, I listened to that entire series (and read it).
Bernadette: Like you I have a book in my ears often -- and I get my books from multiple sources too.
I should've joined this challenge. Even with the Outlander thing hanging over my head, I could have easily accomplished 12. You are just like me with the audios...they go everywhere I do. It is ultimate in multi-tasking!
Good for you. You deserve to celebrate. Whoever thought up the idea of putting books on tape/cd is also to be celebrated. I agree with you that some books are just meant to be read aloud.
Congratulations on finishing! I love audio books too. I've got 13 Reasons on my list, but now I may have to look for it on cd first. Thanks for the recommendation :)
Congrats on finishing the challenge, Beth!
I started listening to audio books just a few months ago. It's my motivation for walking/running (instead of music). I like the way you multi-task and listen while doing housework, too, although I think I need to keep the audio books as the "carrot" that gets me on the treadmill!
Do you ever listen to non-fiction?
Congrats on completing a challenge! I hope I manage to complete at least one this year! : )
I've never been a big fan of audiobooks but I know I need to exercise more and maybe this will help me out. I might have to give that free Audible download a try after all!
Congratulations on finishing this challenge. I love it too! Hope J. Kaye runs it again next year!
Margot: I would be celebrating that person with you!
Melody: Thanks
Dawn: I'd never get on the treadmill without a book. I do listen to nonfiction: memoirs work well. When I listen to biography or history, though, I like to have a copy of the print book at hand so I can look at the illustrations and refer back to important dates or events.
Jenners: Pick something light to start with.
Alaine: I would sign up again in a heartbeat!
I loved the audio for 13 Reasons Why! Definitely one of my faves this year so far.
Wow! I can't believe you're already done with this challenge. I'm nt even half-way through. I am listening to 'Wicked Lovely' at the moment and I like it. I also have Ink Exchange waiting for me at the library.
Great job!
